A few days ago, in the Indian Premier League 2025, Abhishek Sharma of Sunrisers Hyderabad registered his name in the IPL record books by playing a match-winning innings of 141 runs against Punjab Kings. Thanks to this brilliant innings, SRH chased down a record target of 247 runs. But this is not the first time that a team has registered the highest successful chase in IPL history. Fans have witnessed many thrilling run chases in the last few years in the IPL, in which teams have successfully crossed even the toughest targets. 1. 262 runs Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Kolkata, 2024

This is the highest run chase ever in IPL history.  In this match, PBKS captain Sam Curran won the toss and invited KKR to bat first. KKR batted first and put up a mountain-like score of 261 runs on the scoreboard thanks to Phil Salt (75) and Sunil Narine (71). It seemed that KKR would win the match easily, but the PBKS batsmen batted brilliantly that day and achieved the target in just 18.4 overs, losing just 2 wickets. Jonny Bairstow hit an unbeaten century and scored 108*, while from the other end, he was helped by Shashank Singh's 68 runs off 28 balls, which played an important role in chasing this historic target.

2. 247 runs scored by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Hyderabad in 2025

PBKS scored a mammoth score of 246 runs in a high-scoring encounter in IPL 2025.  For PBKS, captain Shreyas Iyer scored 82 runs off 36 balls with the help of 6 fours and 6 sixes. Apart from Iyer, Priyansh Arya (36 runs off 13 balls), Prabhsimran Singh (42 runs off 23 balls), and Marcus Stoinis (34 runs off 11 balls) played brilliant innings in this match and took Punjab to a mountain-like score. However, SRH achieved this target easily and scored 247/2 in just 18.3 overs to win by 8 wickets. In this Match, Abhishek Sharma's cricket score was 141 runs, which he scored in just 61 deliveries. While his opening partner, Travis Head, played a brilliant 82-run innings. Both of them put Punjab out of the match in just 12 overs by making a partnership of 171 runs for the first wicket. 

3. 226 runs scored by the Rajasthan Royals (RR) against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in Sharjah in 2020

During IPL 2020, Rajasthan Royals faced Punjab Kings in Sharjah. In this match, Punjab Kings scored 223/2 in 20 overs thanks to Mayank Agarwal's century and KL Rahul's 69 runs. In response, the Rajasthan Royals easily achieved the target by losing 6 wickets. Captain Steven Smith (50), Sanju Samson (85), and Rahul Tewatia (53) performed brilliantly for Rajasthan. Punjab Kings had to face defeat due to Sanju Samson's innings of 85 runs off 42 balls and Rahul Tewatia's brilliant innings in the last overs.

4. 224 runs by Rajasthan Royals (RR) against Kolkata Knight Riders, Eden Gardens, 2024

In IPL 2024, KKR scored a mammoth 223/6 at Eden Gardens thanks to Sunil Narine's 109-run century. RR chased down the target in a strong manner by scoring 224/8 off the last ball. RR pulled off this memorable win thanks to a brilliant century from Jos Buttler. Buttler scored an unbeaten 107 off 60 balls with the help of 9 fours and 6 sixes.

5. 219 runs scored by Mumbai Indians against Chennai Super Kings at Delhi in 2021

In this classic encounter between two of the most successful franchises of IPL, CSK were set a target of 219/4. Known for their art of chasing targets, Mumbai achieved the target by scoring 219/6 in the final over.  Kieron Pollard played a brilliant innings and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by scoring 87* runs in just 34 balls.
